It wasn’t the easiest first year in office for Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet.

Since taking office July 1, 2020, Soignet was faced with a global pandemic, shootings that gained national attention and a record-breaking hurricane season.

As he looks back on his first year as sheriff, Soignet said he was dealt a difficult hand but made the best of it.

“I guess you can call it a trial by fire,” the retired Marine said. “But I’m proud of the work that our people are doing every day. We have some good people and I’m trying to get more officers out there for the community.”

After retiring from the Marines in 2006, Soignet joined the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office, where he served as a patrolman, field training officer and member of the Honor Guard and SWAT team.
